About
Hi, my name is Craig Grella, and I started Daddy by Default as a resource for men to learn about things like:
- Being a stay at home dad
- Baby toys, new tech, and cool gear for dads
- How to make money while staying at home and watching baby
- And of course… articles to help you figure out everything from plugging in that first car seat to what to do when you get baby poop in your hair
What qualifies me to write about such topics. Well, I’m a regular guy, really. I worked in corporate America for a few years, and then in Hollywood, until I started my own consulting company in 2005, and since then I’ve been working from home. Throughout my career I’ve written for websites, newspapers, magazines, and a few trade journals; all total-about a few hundred published articles on a variety of subjects ranging from business and entrepreneurship to finance and real estate.
However, all of that pales in comparison to the work and time that goes into raising a child. Both my wife (another engineer) and I are planners. We love checklists and we love when things go according to plan. Unfortunately, babies don’t really care about plans, and that can make for some interesting, and often sleepless, nights.
If you’re reading this site you probably know what I mean, and that’s exactly why I started Daddy by Default.
Daddy by Default is for the dads who read all the baby books on the market and still don’t have a clue what to do. It’s for the men who think that as long as they do the opposite of their own father everything will be OK. It’s for guys who have no idea what they’re doing when it comes to raising a kid, and for those who found out, to their surprise, that in just a few months they will be responsible for someone other than themselves.
My hope is that this site will help you figure out a thing or two about raising your kid and not losing your mind (or too much sleep) doing it.
There are a million sites out there for women in relation to parenting, but very few quality sites for guys, so we’ve got to stick together. We are all daddy by default.
If you’re new to the site I recommend starting with the page where I show you how to navigate Daddy by Default and introduce you to some of my more popular posts and categories.
Oh, and by the way…the thing about getting baby poop in my hair…that really happened. You can read about it here, in the article titled There’s $#*! Everywhere!
