Movies, Television, and DVD’s for Kids and Families

I watch too much television, but I enjoy a good movie, even if it is animated, and if my daughter makes me watch it 100 times a year. When I have the time, I review those movies and DVD’s and post my thoughts here. I used to be an agent in hollywood helping writers and directors make these movies, so I’d like to think I know a little bit about the critical aspect of film and tv, but really I just like to tell people about it when I see something that makes me laugh, or something that makes my daughter happy. That’s what you’ll see in these articles.

The Best Christmas Music and Classic Christmas Songs

Christmas Music Rocks

Great Christmas music elicits emotion and, more than any other genre, it lifts your spirits and can make your entire day bright and cheery. That’s why I listen to Christmas music all year round. No joke. If I own two hundred albums on CD or in Itunes, half of them are Christmas albums. It’s kind [...]

CinematicMethod is a great movie review, preview, and podcast website

CinematicMethod.com Movie Reviews & Podcast

I wasted more time on the Cinematic Method movie review website than any other site this week. Wasted isn’t really the right word, because I loved every minute of it, but I did spend way too much time there. I’ve always wanted to run a movie review website for a couple of reasons: I love watching [...]

The Fog of War – Movie Review

“I think the human race needs to think more about killing! How much evil must we do in order to do good?… Conventional wisdom is, don’t make the same mistake twice, learn from your mistakes. There will be no learning period with nuclear weapons. You make one mistake and you’re going to destroy nations.” That’s [...]

Daddy by Default's Movie Review of the Karate Kid

The Karate Kid – Movie Review

Generally, one doesn’t need to look much further than the director to know whether a movie will be decent. Ever see a bad movie from Francis Ford Coppola? Brian DePalma? Martin Scorsese? Of course not. That’s why I should have known better watching The Karate Kid (2010), directed by Harald Zwart as a re-imagining of [...]

Peter Columbo Falk Dead at 83

Peter “Columbo” Falk Dead – Say it Ain’t So!

This past Thursday Peter Falk died, which makes me sad.  I worked at an agency where he was a client, and had many interactions with him through my years in Hollywood.  He was a nice guy, a straight talker, and had a bullshit meter like no other, which is why it’s amazing he lasted so [...]
