Daddy by Default’s Site of the Week is Real Men Drive Minivans. If you haven’t read this fatherhood blog yet you’re really missing out. Real Men Drive Minivans is a great site from PJ Mullen, father, amateur chef, and frequent contributor at DigitalDads.com.
The blog houses articles on topics that range from parenting advice, pregnancy, snark and humor, and random thoughts on being a dad. Every now and then he holds a contest for stay at home moms and dads where he gives away cool prizes, gifts, and even some clothes. One of my favorite articles from the Blogosphere in general comes from PJ’s site:
The Real Story of Paul Revere – an alternate history version you’ve probably never heard, and while PJ claims it might not be incredibly accurate, it rhymes, and sounds a little like he channeled his inner “Beastie Boy” when writing it.
If you’re a mommy blog reader you’ve probably seen a hundred sites that profile recipes, many of which just come from other parenting magazines or some good housekeeping cookbook. Daddy blogs don’t usually feature recipes for one of two reasons.
- Most men don’t cook
- The men who do cook don’t blog
PJ not only cooks and blogs, he produces high resolution videos of his recipes and shares them for free on his website so other stay at home dads can pick up a few handy tips around the kitchen and maybe even impress the women in their life.
While I can’t say that I agree with his tagline about minivans, I can say the site itself has been a great resource for me as a father, and has provided countless hours of good reading, daddy humor, and even a few do it yourself projects around the kitchen, which I can tell you the wife is pretty happy about too.
