Win an Amazon Kindle – Are you Serious?

in Giveaways

Win and Amazon Kindle from Daddy by Default and an E-book from Lendle.me

Yes. We’re serious!

Daddy by Default is giving away an Amazon Kindle and ebook.

This is not merely a promotional giveaway, it’s a giveaway to say thanks to our fans and readers. In just three months online we’ve met some really cool people, and those people have gotten us to nearly 1,000 Twitter followers, and a whole bunch of Facebook friends (yes, we like you too!)

There are only 3 simple steps you need to complete, and a random winner will be drawn at competition close. You’ll see the directions below in the Rafflecopter form with links to follow.  Make sure you do all three and click “I did it” when you’re done.

But wait, there’s more!

We can’t just give you a Kindle with nothing to read.  What would you think of us then? So we’ve partnered with Lendle.me to give the winner a free Kindle E-book of their choice ($25 value).

If you don’t know who Lendle.me is, you’re missing out: It’s only the best online Kindle E-book social community on the web, allowing you to borrow e books from other Kindle users, and even to make money lending people your E-books in your Kindle library.  Read more about them in a post I wrote about Lendle.me.

So what do we have to do to win this freaking Kindle already?

Good question. Follow the instructions below. Entries open today and will run until 9/30/2011. If you can’t figure out the instructions, don’t contact us, you probably shouldn’t have a Kindle anyway.

You’ll notice we use Rafflecopter to randomize the drawing, so everything is above-board and fair when the winners are chosen automatically.  As a last note, you may want to read our giveaway terms and conditions for overall contest rules.  They’re fairly simple and straight forward.

Good luck, good reading, and thanks for being a part of the Daddy by Default community.

Craig

Since I’m the stepmom in our house, I let daddy wear the pants. I’m the one who encourages play time and general tomfoolery! :)

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

He’s the bad guy, and you’re the fun mom. Smart move.

Daddy wears the pants in our house–or as we refer to him, Papa! As the mama, I often get my way (about feeding, napping, dressing baby, etc.), but even that is open for discussion. So, I would say that Papa wears the pants, because I may be old-fashioned, but I believe in letting the man be a man.

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

He might wear the pants, but sounds like you are the gentle persuader, easing him to the “right” decision.

If Mom ain’t happy no one is happy. My wife therefore wears the pants.

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

@twitter-13798142:disqus Yes, I know that feeling. sigh.

  • Alex Tauer

I’m the step dad in the house, and the wife wears the pants the majority of the time.  I only put mine on to take out the garbage or get the mail…

Just kidding.  My wife does wear the pants in the house though.

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

@215544708bc76b9a594657300d957331:disqus   So you don’t wear pants when taking out the garbage? Have the neighbors called the cops yet?

  • Farmnwife

Who wears the pants? Depends on the issue at hand. If I don’t think the situation has to be made by me, I let my dh make the decision. ;)

      Very efficient Judi.  Very efficient.

    We both wear the pants.

  • Danielle York

It depends on what kind of pants they are!

  • staceym

Mommy does in this household… for now. :-)

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

Yeah, mine too, but I like the “for now” qualification.  That gives me hope I might be able to shift the balance of power in my home.  Slim hope, but there’s a chance.

I agree with the commenters who posted that it depends on the issue/pants.  We both do.

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

Do you agree upon the issues ahead of time, like “Ok, hun you take the questions about sex, and school, and I’ll take the discipline stuff?” Just wondering.

  • http://anij.myopenid.com/ anijh

I agree with the commenters who posted that it depends on the issue/pants.  We both do.

Daddy doesn’t have time to wear the pants! We are raising our 20 month old grandson, and since Daddy (Grandaddy) is the only one working, Mom (Grandmama) handles everything else. Therefore, I wear the pants. :D

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

I see.  So then it’s He who has the gold delegates the pants.

The pants are shared in our house…I manage all of the finances, but in collaboration with my wife. We both try to decide mutually about how we raise our children, but Mom tends to have the final say.

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

We tried to collaborate on the finances, but I wasn’t able to sneak money into my Harley fund that way.

  • RandiLee

Who wears the pants?? Ha! Ask him and he’ll say him, but I think that he and the kiddos know that it would definitely be mommy :)

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

LOL. First person to say “ask the kids.”  I image that would be the true test.

My boyfriend and I only have two cats but even so I definitely think I’m the softy when it comes to kitty cat bad behavior. I am too swayed by their cute little faces and double-paws.

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

Yeah, i was the same with our mini daschshund, our experiment before we had kids.  it only gets worse when you do have kids, because they’re even cuter, and more irresistible.

I love ebooks too.  I’ve been reading mostly on the ipad, but i got a kindle for my wife recently and love the damn thing.

Daddy all the way!  He needs Mommy to help him remember where he put the belt that holds them up though… and he’d get caught with them down a whole lot more (in a purely proverbial manner, of course) if it wasn’t for her!

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

Sadly, I know exactly what you mean.

  • http://brokenwon.blogspot.com/ won

Easy. There is no dad in the house.

I wear the pants (but my teen thinks he does all too often :)

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

Ah yes, they say the most effective managers let their people think they were the ones who came up with the good idea.  When applied to parenting, this seems like an equally effective strategy.

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

I’m familiar with pecking orders, and my place on the totem pole, so to say.

  • Steve aka Fathernorest

Generally I am the big goof off, and let my wife make most of the administrative decisions of the household. ( Especially while I am off on medical leave and she is only one working). However, I do chose my battles to have the final say on. So I guess the most honest response is Mommy and Daddy share fun time and disciplinarian time in our house

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

Understand completely, you gotta choose your battles!

  • Mk198513

My husband “Daddy” wears the pants in the house. My daughter and I both know that very well. I’m the nice one, fun one. ;)

I wear them…..my wife says its OK  :)

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

ha ha, Michael. That’s a good one. I was thinking it would be cool to wear them once and a while, but it’s pretty cushy being the fun one and not the bossman.

You’re in the right place my friend.

  • Anonymous

I pretend to let my hubby think he wears the pants at times. I guess with Techy things and cooking he’s the one, but with school, laundry, and the boring things it’s me.

  • Patrice

I have some shocking information for everyone pondering this question, the kids wear the pants in the family!  Once they are born, the world revolves around them, and believe me, their needs seem so much important than your own.  They change your life, and all decision-making tends to be dependent on them.  So forget the pants, and the dictatorship, and enjoy the feeling that the power lies in making them healthy, happy, and secure!

    • http://twitter.com/DaddybyDefault DaddybyDefault

Very profound Patrice, although I suspect it probably doesn’t come as a shock to most parents. Maybe new parents.  For sure, it was a shock to me. I’ve never cared more about anything than I do my little girl, and I very quickly got used to trying to make her healthy, happy, and secure, as you say.

  • Brooks Travis

We share the pants. Big clown pants.

Since I’m a single dad of two girls I try to. Unless they do the laundry and then I may never find my pants again…or one of many socks that go missing every time :)

    • http://daddybydefault.com Craig Grella

An old friend and past client of mine wrote a great kids book about the place where all your lost laundry socks go. It’s called The Land of Sokmunster. You can find it here: http://www.theastonishfactory.com/page19.html.
That place is real, I’m positive!

truth be known, I probably “wear the pants”….hubby tries to be nice and do things the way I like them and not complain to keep me happy.  Long story—-as far as working though, he works long hard hours to earn the money, so in that aspect, he wears the pants.

  • Justine McD.

It depends on what its about, doctors and medical and food choices I wear them. Money, places we go, what we spend, and such daddy does.

Ok, so if i’m reading this right, you wear the pants, but rarely put your foot down. So they’re kind of like invisible pants.  Hmmm, that might be a new fashion idea. Not wholly appropriate for being around kids, but an interesting idea.

  • Aahaft

My DH is never home and only sees the kids on weekends so unfortunately I’m left being the bad guy while my husband is the one that gets to spend fun time with them on the weekends.  Although they always listen to him and just drive me crazy

let’s see, well sometimes it’s me unless I’m wearing a dress or a skirt, most times it’s Daddy unless it’s summer and he’s in his shorts, and then of course the kids get pants too can’t have them running around half clothed after all.

If you want to know who rules the roost at our house well, sometimes it’s Me (well mostly it’s me). I’m there all day every day feeding, teaching and playing with the kids. Sometimes it’s Daddy. We discuss all our family decisions together. Sometimes we let the kids make the decisions (within reason) so they learn responsibility.

    • http://daddybydefault.com Craig Grella

    • http://daddybydefault.com Craig Grella

Oooh, a betting woman. Let’s get him on the horn and find out…LOL.

  • http://twitter.com/zebastyandylan Dana Valle

I think it depends on the issue…somethings my husband definitely has final say … like electronics, auto issues, (he knows more about these than me )…Things like home decor, furniture, clothing, groceries…those are mine. Issues like money, vacations, discipline for the kids..we always work together.

    • http://daddybydefault.com Craig Grella

ok, very judicious. Are there really that many home decor issues that arise? The only thing we worry about these days is breast milk staining the couch.

  • Chelsea Saulpaugh

Well if I had to choose between mommy and daddy, it would be mommy. But, I think the real one who wears the pants is our cat, Sasha.

    • http://daddybydefault.com Craig Grella

Haha, second person who deferred to a pet, but first one for the cat.

  • Emily

I can hardly find pants to wear in the morning…

    • http://daddybydefault.com Daddy by Default

You can hardly find them, and I find them hard to wear. Two peas in a pod.  A pod with no pants. Ok this comment is ridiculous. Signing off now.

  • Jenn_isgod187

My house is very shared. I assume the normal “daddy” role because I have two full time jobs that I absolutely love and could never imagine giving up.  My boyfriend has stepped into the “mommy” role and takes care of me and our three great chihuahuas. It works great for us, even if money is tight (he is capable of earning more then me) because although I don’t want to sacrifice either of my jobs, I don’t want to sacrifice my time with him either.

    • http://daddybydefault.com Daddy by Default

The insta-family for the boyfriend. That’s in interesting setup, but sounds like a good working plan to covers the basis.

  • ashley

    Mommy!

    mommy

  • Crystal Wonitoy

Who wears the pants?  Our 6 year old Gracie.  She’s ruled the roost with an iron fist since the day she was born. Second in command is Mommy, though.

    • http://daddybydefault.com Daddy by Default

      Well played Crystal, well played.

  • Sarah Van Pelt

Who wears the pants depends on the day and the issue…but when it comes to the kid, it’s usually Mommy.

  • and_read

We have three cats for now, so we’re happily sharing the pants-wearing. But I imagine there might be some radical shifts if/when our adoption goes through!

    • http://daddybydefault.com Daddy by Default

So if I’m reading this correctly, you’re saying you share your pants with three cats? That’s the kind of stuff you see in those pet police tv shows.

  • Jason Chen

Duh of course it’s the mother that wears the pants, me and my dad underwear all day.

    • http://daddybydefault.com Daddy by Default

      Yes! Freeballin, baby!

  • Juazella

That would be mommy… does Daddy ever wear the pants?  :)

  • Becca Hamberg

It’s like they say in My Big Fat Greek wedding…. He’s the head of the family, but I’m the neck… and the neck can turn the head any which way it wants! :P just kidding. My husband truly is the head. We discuss everything, but he always gets the final say in important decisions.

    • http://daddybydefault.com Daddy by Default

that’s funny Becca, hadn’t seen that movie, but interesting quote, and true. The woman behind the man, or at least the neck moving the head.

  • Ncsuzblogs

I’m the only one in my house besides the dog and he definitely does not wear pants.

    • http://daddybydefault.com Daddy by Default

Too bad, those pictures of dogs wearing “human” like clothing are pretty funny.

  • http://twitter.com/nhedlin Natalia Hedlin

Daddy wears the pants, of course! Who else?:)

  • http://www.facebook.com/MidniteRushhh Jessica Elise

    Rock on DaddybyDefault!! :)

    • http://daddybydefault.com Daddy by Default

      I like your style JE.

  • susan wiener

I definitely wear the pants in our family, but I let hubby think he does. Now don’t tell him, k. :)

  • Tara

    Definitely Mommy! :)

    • http://daddybydefault.com Daddy by Default

So many mommies wearing the pants, i love it. But seriously guys, someone needs to step up here!

  • Jessica Fabela

mom for sure. growing up we did the typical ask mom first then ask dad if we didn’t like moms response :)

    • http://daddybydefault.com Craig Grella

Yes, but that never worked for us either. Even if they weren’t aligned, when one found out we asked the other, we always got in trouble.

  • Jcwga

    mommy

  • Itsmecrisi

I may wear the pants when it comes to the decisions about our household but Daddy is still the main pants wearer!!!  I would never dream of doing something without consulting him!

  • http://www.texastypeamom.com Kelly

I usually end up wearing the daddy pants in our family.  Sad, but true.  I’ve accepted my lot.

  • Riakerley

We both wear the pants depending on the situation. I think a partnership in parenting works better when  you do it this way.

    • http://daddybydefault.com Craig Grella

totally agree, at least thats what I tell my wife.:)

  • Denisa

I wear the pants in the house. Never send a man to do a woman’s job…

    • http://daddybydefault.com Craig Grella

LOL! So true. “Never send a man to do a woman’s job” is the cousin to “If you want it done right, do it yourself.” Which usually means, let mom do it!

  • Heidi K.

I’d say we each have one leg of the pants. :)

    • http://daddybydefault.com Craig Grella

Ah yes, the 3 legged race.

  • http://profiles.google.com/debawriter San Diego Momma (Deb)

My husband and I both have a leg in one pair of pants. It’s a delicate balance. Very delicate. We just end up hopping around a lot.

    • http://daddybydefault.com Craig Grella

Funny, we end up hopping around alot too, regardless of which legs are in (or out of) the pants. one of these days we’ll get it together. Hopefully before kid #2, but i doubt it.

Daddy rules the roost, although as we’ve gotten older, he listens to my input and considers my feelings, often thoughtfully compromising what he might have done on his own

I’m the one who wears the pants, well…I share responsibilities with my older brother! :]

  • Michael M

I wear the pants but I like to let mommy think she does.Maybe she lets me think I do

  • Robin S

We pretend dad does, but probably I do, or sometimes the kids do lol :) )

  • Leah S

    Daddy of course

  • DEBIJO4545

Mommy wears the pants, and wears them well.

  • http://www.facebook.com/melaniemerv Melanie Mervin

Daddy wears the pants in the house when it comes to finances, but I RUN the house … ;)

  • nbob123

my husband would argue differently, but i do ;)

  • Elizabeth Sanchez

Papi would like to tell you he wears the pants. I like to let Papi wear the pants. They are washed, folded and put away by me, and when I need to get the kids to do something they listen to me without me yelling. The whole yelling thing is what gets me. He can have his pants. I’ll keep my voice ;-)

    • http://daddybydefault.com Daddy by Default

so they know who’s in charge regardless of who’s wearing the pants. I’d like to see that household. You guys have trained them well!

      • Elizabeth Sanchez

Um…I’m not sure you’d like to see it. It can get pretty messy when the kids listen to me and not to him because HE’S THE ONE YELLING! (WHY DON’T THEY LISTEN!? YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO ME, TOO, KID, BECAUSE MY VOICE IS BOOMING! WAIT….WHY ARE YOU RUNNING AWAY!?) Yeah…not pretty.

        • http://daddybydefault.com Craig Grella

LOL. My dad was a yeller. come to think of it, so was my mom. Probably why i’m so quiet.

  • http://www.clockworklemon.com Stephanie

Our cat wears the pants in our house. Fur pants.. actually he sheds so much that we all sort of wear fur pants

    • http://daddybydefault.com Daddy by Default

funny. I think cowboys and some clowns wear fur pants too, so you’re in good company!

thanks. I love single mommies too. I mean, in general, not particular ones. I love my wife. I’m stopping now.

Dad wears the pants for the most part. I guess, ‘he who makes the money, makes the rules’! On the other hand, he’s very fair and generous!
